As the song that we have chosen for our music video is a Power Ballad, We made the conscious decision to go with a narrative performance because we felt that this is a more productive way of creating a video, as it is more likely to be well received. Due to the fact that our video is creating a story we really thought about the shots we were going to use. We felt that close up shots and extreme long shots were the best as we can get all the reaction and emotions from the close ups and the scenery and narrative story from the extreme long shots.
The narrative of the video begins with a young girl who has is quite depressed as she is reminiscing about her lover who is now dead. The video begins with the girl (played by Lana) singing and playing the piano in front of an empty theatre. She then remembers the good times she had with her boyfriend (played by Darren) which then shows them hugging and showing affection as well as them sitting with a lovely backdrop on the bench of the River Thames. Right from the beginning of the video we will be had close ups and long shots to establish the scenery behind her.
We will be having the video go back and forth throughout the video of the story and the piano scene.
The narrative of the video begins with a young girl sitting and singing at the piano as she is reminiscing about the good times after she has found out that her boyfriend has died. The video is just constantly going back and forth of the girl (played by Lana) at the piano and her and her boyfriend before he passed. There will be happy shots of Lana and her boyfriend (played by Darren) just showing affection like any other couple do. The backdrop is really important as we really wanted to give a London feel so we are making sure that we get a location with a river and sky-high buildings. Getting to the middle of the video there will be shots of Darren waiting for Lana as they are meant to be meeting up. He then becomes very frustrated, but eventually she shows up and they get into a very big argument as this is not the first time she has disappointed him. At this point the shots have to be very clear so we are going to get as much scenery as possible. She’s absolutely devastated as she knows that she has really done some damage to their relationship. We want to get some over the shoulder shots and point of view shots as this will show that we have used various shots in our video. He then walks off and this is where the intense part of the song begins where he walks into the street and gets run over. We decided to do this because we really felt this would be a big and effective ending. We have been told about the disadvantages of doing something like this because it is not guaranteed to be successful but we felt that is a good and sad narrative story. At this point it all results back into a flash back of the god times they share together.
I had gone through the narrative storyline and wrote in detail about the issues that would be included in our music video.
