Analysis Of A Digipak 2

The digipak displays the many typical conventions that you would find in a digipak. The band has been positioned in a high angle shot on the cd digipak to show that they are of importance. The artist is represented to the audience in a very prominent way as their facial expressions show them all looking away from the camera as if to say they don’t care. The images selected for the CD digipak is what we would expect for a rock band such as this. The unexplainable pictures which would definitely cause some controversy show that they are a typical rock band.

The main colours used for the digipak are black red and white. These are very dark and Gothic colours which add to the conventions of rock. The colours make all seem evil and intimidating to the audience as the lack of bright colours really gives that edgy and fearful look. The colours have been used specifically to give them as artists a sense of individuality.

The artist on this digipak definitely displays a clear reflection of their style. The band has a particular style that does reflect the design and layout as it has a rock element to it. The controversial images and the even the name of title definitely highlights that they are a rock band who are trying to make a name for themselves. The image of what looks like a book is very unusual as it doesn’t seem to fit in with the theme of the digipak as a whole.

The genre of music is made clear from the beginning. The array of pictures on the digipak of the band performing live already shows that they are a rock band. The use of the guitar and drums also demonstrates that they are a relatively modern rock band. Their clothing also makes it apparent that they are a rock band because their clothing is very dull and dark. The lack of colour shows their odd punk style.
The packaging is laid out in a very stylised way as they have chosen very interesting images to make the digipak notorious. The actual CD is the only image which contains a professional mid-shot image of the band. Each part of the digipak has a different image that has been laid out to tell a different story as one looks like it’s part of a book another is an image of a man holding a guitar and pointing as if it is a gun which has been laid out to really intrigue the audience into know what this live album is about.

The title of the album is very unusual but interesting. The name of the album was inspired by a Bible with a bullet hole in it in the Imperial War Museum in London. This is a very unique name for an album which could be taken by offence as the album has religious referencing to it.

The packaging of the band does indeed promote the band because they have carefully thought out all the little details that should be on a digipak. The parental advisory logo has been put their as they know that young people are into their music but they have to be warned because of what might be heard on this album. The album has been promoted in a way to make sure the band is recognisable to the world. Throughout majority of their albums the same main colours are used and the image of the red love heart also has been used several times to show that this is their own logo. The front cover of the digipak also contains logos of the record company and their website information in order for their fans to find out more about them.

Images Of The Location

These are the images that I had taken of the locations/scenery that we had used in our video. I made sure that I took as many images as I could of the important scenes in the music video.

Synopsis

As the song that we have chosen for our music video is a Power Ballad, We made the conscious decision to go with a narrative performance because we felt that this is a more productive way of creating a video, as it is more likely to be well received. Due to the fact that our video is creating a story we really thought about the shots we were going to use. We felt that close up shots and extreme long shots were the best as we can get all the reaction and emotions from the close ups and the scenery and narrative story from the extreme long shots.

The narrative of the video begins with a young girl who has is quite depressed as she is reminiscing about her lover who is now dead. The video begins with the girl (played by Lana) singing and playing the piano in front of an empty theatre. She then remembers the good times she had with her boyfriend (played by Darren) which then shows them hugging and showing affection as well as them sitting with a lovely backdrop on the bench of the River Thames. Right from the beginning of the video we will be had close ups and long shots to establish the scenery behind her.
We will be having the video go back and forth throughout the video of the story and the piano scene.

The narrative of the video begins with a young girl sitting and singing at the piano as she is reminiscing about the good times after she has found out that her boyfriend has died. The video is just constantly going back and forth of the girl (played by Lana) at the piano and her and her boyfriend before he passed. There will be happy shots of Lana and her boyfriend (played by Darren) just showing affection like any other couple do. The backdrop is really important as we really wanted to give a London feel so we are making sure that we get a location with a river and sky-high buildings. Getting to the middle of the video there will be shots of Darren waiting for Lana as they are meant to be meeting up. He then becomes very frustrated, but eventually she shows up and they get into a very big argument as this is not the first time she has disappointed him. At this point the shots have to be very clear so we are going to get as much scenery as possible. She’s absolutely devastated as she knows that she has really done some damage to their relationship. We want to get some over the shoulder shots and point of view shots as this will show that we have used various shots in our video. He then walks off and this is where the intense part of the song begins where he walks into the street and gets run over. We decided to do this because we really felt this would be a big and effective ending. We have been told about the disadvantages of doing something like this because it is not guaranteed to be successful but we felt that is a good and sad narrative story. At this point it all results back into a flash back of the god times they share together.

I had gone through the narrative storyline and wrote in detail about the issues that would be included in our music video.
